SSG Landers left Incheon Airport on the 23rd for the first spring camp to be held in Florida, USA and Kagoshima, Japan. The camp also includes Lee Yul-ye, a rookie catcher from Gangneung High School who was selected as the eighth-ranked player in the first round of the 2025 KBO Rookie Draft, and fans are looking forward to it.메이저놀이터
Lee Yul-ye is the first prospect to be selected among catchers in this year's draft. It is the first time in 10 years that SSG has picked a catcher in the first round of rookie players since Lee Hyun-suk in 2015, and the fourth time in the club's history. This clearly shows how high the club's expectations are on Lee.
The position of catcher is a key position in charge of the home turf of the team, and it is one of the positions where it is difficult to immediately hire a rookie player. Nevertheless, Lee received attention in high school due to his outstanding defensive ability and stable lead, and was recognized for his potential in hitting. This is why SSG chose Lee for generational change of catcher's resources and long-term stability of the team.
SSG maintained experience and stability through harmony between Kim Min-sik and Lee Ji-young in its catcher lineup last season. However, there has been a constant need for young and promising catcher resources. In response, Lee is drawing attention as a talent who will take responsibility for the team's future.
Through this camp that will take place in Virovich, Florida, Lee will be able to become a professional golfer. During the spring camp, Lee is expected to prove his skills in competition with existing catchers and strengthen his position in the team.
The following is the question and answer conducted with Lee Yul-ye.
- It's my first time going to spring camp?
I'm both excited and nervous. I want to go quickly and get the ball from my seniors and play baseball. I think I'm really excited.
- What is it like to be a professional?
Compared to high school, there are a lot of new and interesting things. As I exercised systematically and professionally, I felt differently as I encountered things I had not experienced. "I don't know how to exercise like this," I am looking for an exercise that suits me. So I am creating my own routine and exercise method. I thought I should make this more certain.
- How did you spend your time after that?
Focusing on weight training, he tried to increase power and speed. He gained about 5 kilograms of weight, which gave him strength, and he also exercised quickness to prevent his agility from falling. He seems to have focused on weight training during the off-season.
- It's hard for a high school rookie to get straight into the first team, do you have a goal?
Being in the opening game entry is one of my goals. However, I think that wherever you start, if you prepare well, the opportunity will come. I believe that it is important to seize that opportunity. No matter where you start, if you prepare hard, I think you will be able to seize the opportunity. I am really grateful to Bum-soo and Hyung-woo for their encouragement and advice and saying, "If you become a senior, please do these things for your juniors."
- There are a lot of good catchers on the team?
I think it will be more fun than frustrating. Rather than imitating someone else's style, I want to play baseball in my own style called Lee Yul-ye.
- What about your throwing ability?
I thought my shoulders were not good, but as I gained weight and gained strength in high school, my throws began to go well. Since then, I have gained confidence in my shoulders. When I was a third grader in high school, I felt that the accuracy improved a lot when I saw the steal blocking rate. I think I've gotten better through weight training during the offseason, so I think I'll be better than I was in high school through spring camp.
- Have you spoken to Seriza and the battery coach?
I've been advised not to try to fix or change what I have, but to maintain the present good and supplement the subtleties. I've been practicing a lot to reduce unnecessary movements.
